Just press play…

‘Dork’-ins, evolutionary theorists and codswallop!

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Luke, his Dad and I were listening to a Youtube video the other week which was showcasing a debate on the news between an evolutionist and a creationist.  The creationist had been sending packs round to schools to offer the theory of a ‘creative designer’ to challenge the now ‘accepted viewpoint’ of evolution and Darwinism.  The report made me really cross, - I hate it when people come out with bold passionate statements and so sweep up a whole nation of gullible punters in their midst purely because of their confident stance.  If you test and challenge the statement it is often a load of rubbish.

Statement from Mr evolutionist was “why should we have these packs when religion has NOTHING TO DO with science?”  What an idiot.  If he is referring to a succession of ritualistic habits in the sense that you or I might understand ‘religion’, then he is probably right, saying ‘hail mary’ does not have a lot to do with science, as ‘religion’ does not have an awful lot to do with Christianity.  However, he was referring to faith, therefore the implication is entirely unfounded.   Faith is ABSOLUTELY to do with science.

1.  God created science.

2.  Try to talk about evolution without once mentioning faith.  You can’t, because it is a theory, in which case it has to be believed in, which involves a degree of faith.

3.  Creation (or ‘faith’ or even ‘religion’ as they refer to it here) is the basis of science.  This is a definition of science: “systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.”  So you cannot say that the world came about ‘by science’ or even that science existed first as it is a progressive study, not an entity.  It is learned, not given and ultimately, scientific theories cannot be proven.  The whole definition infers (correctly) that a large element of science is the STUDY of creation.  Why, therefore are we not looking at this gargantuan element of our education IN our education?

Ok so you might say that creation is a ‘theory’ and that God is too, if nothing can be proven.  Thus rests my case, the entire actuality of science is that it is a process of gathering the evidence of theories and deciphering the most plausible option.  If evolutionists don’t acknowledge the existence of God then they must believe in this actuality, as there could only otherwise be God to tell them anything concrete.

As the creationist rightly stated, he was not even trying to enforce the notion that the Christian God is the creative designer (although I would have!!) but was just asking schools to look at both sides of the coin, rather than simply educate a nation with a theory (presented as truth) that contains far too many flaws (not taught) to be plausible.

The federal states of .com - dystopia?

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Federalism - a trendy expression determining the linkage of overseer and overseers, in order to govern a nation.  This word sends a slight chill down my spine today as I sit and reflect upon the state of society in a world that is trying to reject God under the fragile guise of that thing which it calls ‘political correctness’ and then wonders why our land is being cursed with flooding, fires, tsunamis, earthquakes, children being shot for no reason, terrorism, violence and crime.   It seems utterly abhorrent to reason that people would then turn around and ask why God of all beings should allow this to happen.

I have to be honest for a minute.  I quite enjoy living in denial, in fact, I thrive off the idea that everything is alright in my bubble and I think that a lot of people are the same.  We see reports on the news about the suffering of others and feel numb because it is too big.  It can be hard to relate when we cannot touch, see, taste and smell the reality of what is going on in places like Greece, where loved ones have been lost in fires.  Iraq, where soldiers and civilians have been killed in war.  It is strange to see such a transmission of real life and it feels intangible because we cannot reach it.

So I began to wonder…  Why and how can we sit at these machines, communicating with the entire globe, managing our lives and the lives of others and yet feel so removed from the realities of life?  Why can we not talk to people because it is easier to message them on  Facebook?  Why is it that we can bank, book holidays, arrange our social lives, play games, gather information, contact people, shop, have pets, have careers etc online and we still don’t know the name of the man who lives on his own next door?!!?  We must stop looking at life through a screen, where problems can be written off with emails, money can be juggled at will using just numbers and where life is fairly controllable.

The federal governance here, is the world wide web and the constituents us, as we sit and experience ‘the world at (y)our fingertips’.  We build an idealistic world that ignores problems until they hit us in the face.

There has been a great uproar about ‘climate change’ and most of us have made a little effort to increase their recycling habits.  The efforts to minimise this threat have been a great commercial success, as companies enjoy their profits on composting bins, solar panels, wind turbines, recycling bins and less land fill.  I feel pretty good as I sort my cans, bottles, paper, plastics, organic waste etc out and feel like I might be helping this old planet a little.  Maybe there will be less land fills for God to clear up when He decides to end the world.   Then you hear on the news that a little boy has been shot.  There’s some perspective for you.  His life is gone.  I am all for being a good steward of the land, but I don’t think we should be patting ourselves on the back too hard when the social state of our nation is in severe demise.   I don’t actually believe that this is an educational issue, I believe that the issue lies within the deep human need for contact and companionship with other human beings.

Our model for this is God in His three parts, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  They are so closely in relationship that they are one entity and also three parts.   Man was made for fellowship with God.  God saw that man could not be on his own and so made him a helper.  Humans are designed to interact and yet are not allowed, due to laws that state that you cannot lay a hand upon a child’s shoulder, or that due to internet facilities, the need for conversation and companionship is severely negated. When a person becomes little more than an icon on a screen, their importance, possession of a heart and a soul, emotions etc diminish somewhat and we find ourselves with acquaintances of whom we know which movies they like to watch, or perhaps their most embarrassing moment.  These things are pretty shallow and if you have ever spent time observing a human being, you will realise that there is more to them than this.  What is to be done?  Get out more?  I am still thinking…

Hmmm…

Ok this morning we got the Arabic newspaper that seems to frequent our letter box (for someone else!) and JT got something for Direct Line.  So actually, we are probably just unpopular!  This makes me sad, I love post!  So yes please Owen, if you could forward the BT bill (or preferably something a LITTLE more interesting) then that’d be grand.  Steve, you hate post?!?  I will send you something exciting to put a stop to that attitude once and for all.

Post anyone?

We have not received any post for three days (or possibly longer, we were away so not sure!)  My friend who lives round the corner hasn’t either…  Has anyone else?  Does anyone know what is going on?

La voiture est mort….

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Well…  After an embarrassing escapade on Le Shuttle involving the car not starting for the hundredth time this week, several cars having to reverse out of Le Shuttle and a Jaguar consequently crashing into the side of the train and its driver swearing at the Eurotunnel staff, I was forced to admit that our wonderful £150 car is dead.  Sadness….  We might fix it, unless we can pick up another cheapo but in the meantime we are grateful to Mr Dorey for lending us “Percy”!!  Sadly I can’t drive him as our insurance would not allow for such things.

*sigh*

Great embarrassment….

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Twinkle and Monty are feeling very proud of themselves…  They have stolen a fake water lily (of all things!!) from someone’s pond!!  I have no idea who this someone is as neither of our immediate neighbours have a pond!  *sigh*

Congratulations Ellie and Mark!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

The wedding of Ellie and Mark was a great conclusion to a hectic week…  We had been to a funeral and memorial service, stayed in London with Lou and Mark before picking up Luke, then hurriedly packed for our holiday before going to the wedding.

It was a beautiful service with both bride and groom looking stunning.  The theme was pink and white and the whole day was a real celebration, from beginning to end.  All the best to some of my most faithful blog readers, thanks so much for letting us be part of your big day!
