Monday, October 15th, 2007A rather new-age petrol station…Fire, air & water (and Burger King)
Monday, October 15th, 2007It would of course be politically incorrect to have “hell fire & brimstone”, so this garage decided to be new-age and go for “fire air & water” (although I expect it should be earth & water). I have noticed of late that apparently new-ageism isn’t politically incorrect in our society…
Which led me to thinking… These images sum up a section of our society really, of socio-political policies being dictated by fashion and consumption. In fact, I think that phone contracts sum-up this obsession we have with new-age ideals. You can buy into a contract and then add on ‘bolt-ons’ such as extra texts, extra minutes or whatever you require. You sign up to twelve months but can be bought out at 6. You can choose a handset and a contract and even still, there is flexibility.
Such is the philosophy of the new-age - we have a base of traditional religion but unfortunately people just don’t like being told that they are wrong. So they take the base of whichever religion is trendy at the time and bolt on whichever aspects of life they like. The focus is removed from listening to God and what He can teach us and is instead transferred to self-spirituality, self-evaluation, self-exploration etc. It is here in which as a nation, we have become terribly confused. We look inside of ’self’ to find God, instead of looking to God to find self. If you want to know who you really are, don’t look at yourself or measure the world against yourself, look at God and listen to what He says. We are made in His image and He speaks the truth. I am never going to find God in ‘myself’. He lives in me, but He lives as He (wow I have just invented a cheesy Christian slogan!)
This is the Bible verse that has plagued me for the last few days: “Today, when you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
Know the Word and know the truth. don’t settle for bolt-ons.

Friday, October 12th, 2007We have a baby fish!! I am very excited, having not cleaned the tank for AGES, we have noticed a tiny tiny tiny little orange fish in there!! His name is Friedrich and he is very cute. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t get swallowed accidentally by Angel.
Innocent, but one of the most intelligent brands out there…
Thursday, October 11th, 2007Mannequin life… If only they could talk
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007Ok so latest Uni project sitting alongside ‘red duck’ is the production of a section of a magazine called “Mannequin Life”, exploring the life of mannequins in shop windows and what they see, hear and feel in day to day life. This should be amusing… I now have to go and photograph shop mannequins in various states of disarray!!
In Rainbows…
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007Well here I am, stupidly early at Uni listening to ‘In Rainbows’, my free Radiohead download. Initial impressions? I like it. I am not blown away by originality and awe, but it is good. Punchy tunes, creative composition (not as in tune writing, but stylistic composition and the way that the instruments build up and down). Why not download your copy? I had no trouble downloading either, impressive bandwidth RH!
