curly for a day…*sigh*

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

I wish I had curly hair, mine has always just been dead straight and boring.  The other day I got my hair cut and the lady said “Would you like me to straighten it for you afterwards?”  I replied that no matter what she did to it, it would dry dead straight.  So instead she offered to curl it for me with GHDs.  I was so excited!!  So I was curly for a day and then as soon as I washed it?  Flat.  How sad.  I took a pic on the computer of the curls, just to prove it.

Talking to Mel!

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Well I am loving my new mobile with Skype on it!  I spent a happy half hour chatting to Melody in Australia on my mobile for free!  Woohoo!  Later I went to Trinity and found Mudz and Dave talking to her as well in ridiculous glasses!  Classic.

CRACKERS

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Well, I finally took a trip to the Tate Modern and was looking forward to viewing an exhibit that most of my friends have seen, which consists of a large crack along the ground floor.  We got through the door, had lunch in the café and then I rushed over to the balcony saying to JT “It’s so cool, it’s down he…”  I looked over the edge to see workmen delicately filling it in!!!  NOoooooOOoOOoo!  Ah well.

A lesson in patience

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

I saw this sign at Crawley station and stopped in disbelief.  These signs are very expensive as not only do they have to be designed, but this one has been constructed out of metal.  I stopped to consider the state of the world if the train companies have to inform you that the doors may close 30 SECONDS prior to departure!!!  How utterly ridiculous.  Why should people get upset about that??  When are they supposed to close, AFTER departure?  You can just imagine the complaints; “yarrr but like, I phoned like the speaking clock and I ‘ad like 30 seconds or summin or nuffin so I want like a refund coz now I am late for my Mum’s burrrfday party and she’s cryin on the phone”.  Lesson:  Be on time.

Anyway, this got me thinking about my own state of (im)patience  and actually I fail miserably.  I am the sort of person who sits in the car, muttering at careless motorists, sighing deeply if I get stuck behind the dustcart and even (this is terrible) getting irritated by elderly people crossing the road!!!  What is our problem??

I think about how immensely patient God is with me when I bumble through life stuffing things up.  I couldn’t count the number of times that I miss His instruction because I am being even slower than a granny on a zebra crossing on the uptake.  We need to be a little more like Jesus with one another because if we were, the world would be a much better place.

HARD ROCK CAFÉ!

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Hard Rock Café was totally awesome.  It was rather crowded and very loud, but worth the experience.  The food was great, although HUGE.  I ate a burger that was nearly as big as me, whilst watching classic rock videos and looking at memorabilia.  Hard Rock Café was formed because Eric Clapton used to like sitting in an American diner called Hard Rock Café in London and aksed if they would put a plaque up for him.  They said “How about a guitar?”  So he sent a guitar and they hung it up.  Soon after, Pete Townsend sent a guitar with a note saying “Mine is as good as his” ad the rest is history.  Rock on!dsc00052.JPG

Unique

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I am a great ‘people watcher’ and as trainfellow will tell you, there is no better place to do this than on a train.  We were travelling to London Blackfriars to the Tate Modern and came across a fellow wearing a very unusual outfit…  He wore an ash-grey suit with orange, well, not pin stripe, but squares, know the style I mean?  Underneath he was wearing an off-white ‘blouse’ which was very frilly.  He wore an elaborate bracelet, some socks that looked like medieval curtains and some beige designer shoes.  My conclusive categories were simple:

1.  Gay

2.  Italian

3.  Designer/artist

4.  All of the above

I notices that he carried a sketch pad, so decided that he might be a really famous designer.  I contemplated dropping a business card on him for networking opportunities.  Just then a really annoying woman came and sat beside me after dumping her suitcase in the middle of the aisle and not even moving it when a little old lady (who was having enough difficulty walking on a moving train) couldn’t get past it to go to the toilet.  I nearly shouted at the woman beside me.

Hmmm actually?  He is crossing his legs…  No.1?

Interlude: Trio Tarana at XPOSED

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I forgot to mention - saw an excellent gig at XPOSED Club at Uni on Friday night. It was a band called Trio Tarana, flown in from New York. The music was a fascinating mix of Asian cultures, with a violin, drums and an ‘ude’ (that is how you pronouce it - no idea how to spell it!!) They were all phenomenal musicians and the music was really interesting. The XPOSED Club is the first Friday of every month - get along sometime, it is good.

The next XPOSED event will be integrated within th Jazz Festival. It starts on Friday night with a drummer called Han Bennink (awesome - look him up on YouTube)

and then on Saturday night there will be a 50 piece big band playing a tribute to Sun ra - jazz improvisation/free jazz. I will be playing an instrument or two in this as well *blush*

Zed the ped

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

We have just returned from a picturesque few days in…Crawley(!!) with Tim.  We spent a happy few days in London going to Hamleys, Hard Rock Café, the Tate Modern and on various tubes etc.  We also visited Lou and baby Sam in Surrey, so all in all a nice weekend.  Rather than write a whole documentary, I am going to use pictures to tell different stories.  I can’t concentrate on writing because JT is flying his new remote controlled helicopter up the stairs and it sounds like a food processor!  Arrggghhh!

Anyway, this was my first excitement - having a go on Tim’s moped!  Woooop!
